This is the very first KOA in the nation and the nicest KOA we have ever stayed in! It's on the Yellowstone River with bluffs on the other side and plenty of tall, Cottonwood trees and spacious sites. It's very neat, clean and nicely landscaped. They also have several patio sites that are extremely nice, with many extras, including a swing, a cement patio, an umbrella over the round picnic table, BBQ grills, etc. The only reason I didn't give this park a 10 is because the showers are very, very small, as are the dressing areas. If they were to build new bathrooms with larger showers, this park would definitely be a TEN!

This campground is the only one in Cody that is centrally located and w/in walking distance to the EXCELLENT Buffalo Bill Museum and some restaurants. The folks who work there are wonderful, super friendly, helpful and very laid back! They had a free country music concert one night which was fun. Some even got up and danced. And they don't have a "Check-Out Police" coming around and bugging you to leave if you're past the check-out time. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it very highly. They offered us (we did NOT ask) a lower rate b/c we drive a Class B rig.

The staff is excellent, helpful and friendly (under new ownership). The laundry rooms (two of them) and both bathrooms are spotless. In the summer months they offer breakfast and BBQ dinner at very reasonable prices, along with free, live entertainment (country music during the dinner hours). The large swimming pool is very clean and has a huge American flag painted on the bottom. They have a large gift shop and store that is very nice and offers a variety of merchandise nicely displayed. They have a fenced-in area for dogs to run and play freely and a nice playground for the kids near the fenced-in pool(kids can't open safety gate). The only things lacking are BBQ grills at each site and more trees for shade. We did not hear any traffic or train noises, as the campground sets back away from both and we camped on the back row. Sites are gravel and pretty level.

Distant Drums is exceptionally clean and neat. We are full-timers and we have never stayed in a campground where they clean the showers/bathrooms after every single use! The air conditioned and heated private bathrooms are complete, with a toilet, sink, and shower. They even provide you with a disposable bath mat, chair, touchless paper towel dispenser, soap, etc. The laundry room is large and spotless! They use a card system rather than quarters for the washers & dryers, which you buy at the front desk. It has an ironing board, iron, sink, rod to hang clothes, two counters and a TV. There's a computer & printer in the lobby for guests, a sofa with a large TV, fireplace and library in the community room. We intended to stay one night and ended up staying nine days! Loved it there and highly recommend it. Very friendly, helpful staff! Great rates, too (Good Sam's discount makes it even better).

Our impression of this campground was that they do not do any maintenance. The laundry room was filthy (floors, washers, counter) and the lock on the door is missing altogether, so they close the door with a large rock on the floor. The campsites are uneven. They have a restaurant with entertainment (college students), but their prices are high. The trains and highway close by make it a noisy place to stay. In addition, tractor trailer trucks park overnight next door and run their loud generators all night. We will not return to Black Bart's and do not recommend it.

The reason we went to this campground was that the bathrooms were rated a 9.5 and I needed to wash my hair. I was very disappointed in the showers! There were only two, they were small, the shower head was tiny and placed very low, and it just was not worth a 9.5 rating at all! The campground has a 10:00 o'clock curfew, which is ridiculous for adults. We wanted to go out to hear some live music Saturday night, but it didn't start until 9:00 pm and we knew we would not be able to be back by 10:00, so we were unable to go. We went to the TV room to watch TV instead and sit on their big, comfortable sofa, but were kicked out at 9:00 pm so they could lock the doors. The park rules are printed on the back of the campground map and we didn't read them until after 6:00. The office closes at 6:00 pm so we could not go ask about staying out past 10:00 pm. The park was clean and neat, but it is located a ways outside the town, so it's not very convenient.
